Wine-Free Weekend

Yes, it was a whine & wine free weekend ’round these parts!  One of the reasons was that Friday am I woke-up feeling less than stellar, the cold I had been ignoring & that I thought was masquerading as allergies, reared it’s head full-force.  I slept-in, didn’t workout & instead did a lot of sleeping & things like this

Have any of you used a Neti Pot?  It’s probably the most awkward situation I’ve ever put my nose through but I really feel like it cleaned me out & by the time I went to sleep Friday night, I could almost breathe through my nose.  I also laced my dreams took some NyQuil Friday night & that along with 11 hours of sleep, left me feeling much better when I woke-up Saturday am.

My general rule of thumb about workout out with a cold is that if my body feels ok, do something easy.  I usually feel better after sweating some.  So I drug my much-less-snotty self to the gym Saturday am for a workout

The rest of Saturday was spent cleaning, running errands & lunching with my Nana.  We classed it up at Steak N’ Shake, she enjoys a chocolate malt for lunch, when you are 87 that is ok.  I opted for a turkey sandwich which I enjoyed in-between trying to pierce her right ear (that is an entirely too detailed situation to get into on here so instead I will show you a pic of my sandwich).

People who claim you CANNOT eat healthy at fast food places are liars not 100% correct.  Take for instance the sandwich above, I opted for no mayo & subbed wheat bread & did not eat the fries.  There you have it, a simple turkey sandwich.  For more tips on eating healthy at fast food joints check out this article.

Jon & I wanted a low-key evening Saturday so opted for dinner out & a movie at home.  We ate at Macaroni Grill.  There, I admitted it, a chain restaurant…damnit!  I try to shy away from chains just because there are so many local gems that I would rather give my hard-earned $$ to, but we were too lazy to try to think of somewhere & knew MG would be quick & probably good.  I had the grilled shrimp & warm spinach salad, party in my mouth!  It was awesome & I would SO go back…soon!  Sorry for dissing chain restaurants above ;)

Then we watched “The Grey” at home, it’s about wolves & Liam Neesom, that’s all I could tell you about it & that’s probably all you need to know.  Let’s just say I caught up on my Words-With-Friends games during the movie.

Sunday am I hit the gym early for a quick sweat-session before all the Dad’s Day festivities began…I hopped on the elliptical for this 30-min. workout

Throughout my workout I listened to a Jillian Michael’s podcast which a friend recommended. I only got about half-way though the first one but it was fairly inspiring & I’m looking forward to hearing more of what she-man she has to say.

Then it was time to hit up the various families for time with the Dad’s.  I opted to go simple this year for my Dad & got him the new John Grisham book, “Calico Joe“.  It’s about baseball which all Dad’s like, right? And a nice card with a toddler on a toilet, keep it classy.  No, in all honesty, my Dad was excited about the book & even said he was going to start it this week.  I can’t wait to quiz him about it so I can see if he really read it—KIDDING (kind of)!

We BBQ’ed with my fam this afternoon & even though it was 95 degrees out, we still got managed to fill-up on some goodies.  In the spirit of eating all randomness on one plate, I combined my pulled pork with mustard & used pretzel crisps to dip into the mix!  Yummmm….

ps.  I hope it goes without saying that there was A LOT more consumed than what’s shown here :)

And that about wraps up the delightful weekend.  NO WINE (which is very sad) & lots of sleep helped me get over my cold, I’m convinced.  Looking forward to a relaxing rest of the evening spent watching the hot mess of “My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding” (If you have not seen this show yet, google it & check it out, you will feel much better about yourself—guaranteed!)

Happy Dad’s Day to all of the Father’s out there & hope you all had an excellent weekend!
